HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR BODY SHAPE

 by Chiazor Belinda. O

Looking good is serious business and these days men and women alike go to various lengths to ensure they stand out amongst their peers. Let's not forget the average Nigerian is also very fashionable with superb taste in music, clothing, etcetera ,we generally have a genuine appreciation for the arts. However it is human nature to either overdo or underdo things which is why you find a lot of us wearing outlandish or unsuitable clothing and makeup for occasions that call for more subtlety, even our celebrities make this same mistake. Knowing what suits your body shape is essential to dressing successfully, and it doesn't stop there, dressing according to the fashion trend is also important.

People's tastes differ, there is no question about that. What appeals to Mr A or  Mrs B may be distasteful to Mrs C, so while some fashionistas choose to be comfortable first before anything else, others are more daring and adventurous with their style, however one major problem women encounter is how to determine their specific body shape.
Some have the idea, but if one should carry out a research you would be surprised at the number of Nigerian women who do not , those who think they are pear shaped when they are actually apple shaped and as a result they constantly end up purchasing the wrong outfits.

There are eight basic female body shapes and these are :

  1. The tall
  2. The athletic
  3. The inverted triangle
  4. The slender
  5. The hourglass
  6. The Petite
  7. The pear
  8. The apple

Once you are armed with this knowledge ,the next thing you do is find out where you belong, that way you know what to wear to accentuate your figure, thankfully finding suitable body fitting clothing is much easier than it used to be for fashion is constantly evolving

Here are some easy steps to determine your shape
  • Ensure you have adequate privacy
  • Stand in front of your dressing mirror
  • Rid yourself of all clothing, including underwear for it can create the illusion of a shape you don't really have
  • Look carefully at your whole frame, especially your shoulders and hips
  • Visualise a dress form.

Once you have made your discovery and you are completely sure of how wonderfully shaped you are, feel free to look good, feel good always and  pass on the knowledge to your friends and sisters.

30 THINGS EVERY STYLISH WOMAN SHOULD HAVE (continuation)

Here is a continuation of the 30 Things Every Woman Should Have by Denike...

16.) Nude nail polish:
There are times when you don’t have time for a manicure but need to look groomed. A single coat on scrubbed nails and you are good to go.

17.) Control shorts:
They give a flawless line. They are why celebs have the same bulges as us mere mortals.

18.) A style trademark:

Stamp your personality on your look. Think Michelle Obama’s classic string of pearls.

19.) A leather biker jacket:
Preferably, a little bit distressed.

20.) Amazing eyelashes:
There is nothing more feminine than that. Lash extensions make a dramatic difference to your face.

21.) Lip balm:

Peeling, chapped lips are never in vogue. A dab of balm with a neutral lip-liner is perfect for a pared-down look.

22.) Pretty flats:
Because sometimes heels are such a faff. Flats are practical, but can be stylish too.

23.) A leather purse:
Something you see this often should be beautiful.

24.) Yoga pants:
For relaxed chic. Even if you aren’t a yoga lover, these are just perfect for stylish lounging.

25.) A simple gold necklace:
Sometimes statement jewellery is to try hard. Simple can be incredibly sexy.

26.) Serious make-up brushes:
Because there’s nothing more annoying than a moulting set. E.g. House of Tara’s range.

27.) A sequined scarf:
Takes any outfit from day to night.

28.) An emergency wash bag:
Should be the size of a make-up bag and contain miniature ones of every thing you need for a night away.

29.) A great body scrub:
Being stylish demands a smooth skin.

30.) A vintage dress:
There’s been a decade to suit every body type.

                                                                                   by Denike

1.) A colourful silk scarf:
Tie around your neck or waist or onto a handbag. It gives a twist on days when your look needs livening up.

      2.) Killer heels:
They are so glamorous. Heels turn you into an instant style goddess and give you a surge of confidence.

3.) Luxurious bath oil:
Stress causes a huge damage to your skin and we can think of no better way to ease away your cares than soaking in beautifully scented water.

4.) An amazing hairstylist:
After all, you wear your hair everyday. The right cut can transform you. When you have found a stylist you click with, follow them to the ends of the earth.

5.) Opaque tights:
It’s great for covering pale or broken skin, especially if you haven’t the time to deal with issues of hairiness. Try dark berry or brown shades as change from black.

6.)  A witty clutch bag:
This will always start a conversation at parties. Feathers, jewels and funky fabrics are fun and flirty.

7.)  A fine face powder:
Matte is where it’s at. Use a pressed, translucent powder and brush a small amount down the centre of your face.

8.)  Matching lingerie:

The people around you won’t guess the reason for your secret smile- unless you show them, of course! Ladies, you know we’re not talking white cotton here.

      9.) A classic scent:
This should bring back amazing memories. A staple perfume that makes you feel gorgeous is always worth the investment.

10.) A red lipstick:
You can never go wrong with a red lipstick only when applied in excess.

11.)  A bag-sized hairbrush:
This is for when you need to groom on the go. Choose one with a rubber cushioned pad.

12.)  A sense of humour:
All the designer labels in the world can’t make you stylish if you take yourself too seriously.

1    13.) Oversize sunglasses:
This is to make a style statement. A hint of mystique raises the glamour stakes.

14.)   A lovely hand-me-down:
Mixing the old with the new looks fresh. A well-loved fashion piece adds a unique twist to an outfit.
Sasha wearing a grey cardigan and hand-me-down skirt

     15.) Flawless skin:
Protection throughout the year is key. A serum nourishes too.

STYLISH PERSONALITY (Maiden edition)

Nickname: Gotichenri

Boredom can be such an inspiration. Hi! I’m Miss D and you are welcome to my section of the Unveiled Fashion Blog. I promise to post pictures and info you will enjoy. Keep reading *kisses*

Scrolling through my pictures on my Blackberry phone, I came across these pictures and I decided I just have to blog about them. Fashion is a 24/7 job. It can become an obsession, a way of life, an attitude and the list goes on. Style in itself is fashion. Style requires comfort, fun, poise, shapes, colors, fabrics and moods.

Anybody can be stylish as long as you know what works for you. If wearing iro and  buba to the beach works for you, who am I to complain? (Hands in the hair) As long as you rock that outfit and turn heads. I’m kidding, lol.

I love fashion and everything that revolves around it. If I see a sexy outfit, l will definitely complement its wearer and if I see a scary looking outfit (surprised face), I will keep my cool and observe from a distance.

It hurts to see a beautiful lady or a handsome guy wearing a wrong outfit. Sometimes, I am forced to believe many do not have mirrors or have friends who will tell them the truth. Truth be told, a remark about one’s wrong outfit could be mistaken for jealousy if you know what I mean.

Anyways, back to my “Stylish Personality” He is a model, a friend and a head-turner. I present to you (drumroll) – Henry.
